The Problem

Daily planning tools often add pressure when people need clarity most

Most productivity tools assume consistent attention, memory, and energy. For people living with brain injury, cognitive fatigue, autism, chronic illness, or other conditions that affect executive function, dense dashboards and complicated setup can create more work instead of less.

Support also tends to happen across texts, calls, calendars, and memory. That makes it difficult for a person and their trusted supporters to share the right information without losing independence or giving everyone unrestricted access.

  • Busy interfaces increase cognitive load.
  • Important routines and appointments compete for attention.
  • Support information is scattered across multiple tools.
  • Generic sharing models can weaken privacy and independence.
  • Users need help without feeling monitored or controlled.
Project Goal

Create calm structure without taking control away from the user

The goal was to design a daily-support product that feels calm, respectful, and useful on difficult days. BranchDaily needed to simplify planning while preserving the user’s agency. The product therefore centers one clear next step, optional check-ins, and permission-based support rather than surveillance or one-size-fits-all productivity.

Make today understandable

Show the most useful next action before presenting the full schedule.

Reduce cognitive load

Use short language, strong hierarchy, and predictable interaction patterns.

Support independence

Let each person decide what their support circle can view, suggest, or edit.

Design for real life

Handle changing energy, missed items, appointments, and gentle follow-up without shame.

Target Users

Target Users Summary

BranchDaily is designed for people who benefit from more daily structure and for the trusted family members, friends, or caregivers who support them. The primary experience prioritizes clarity, independence, and low cognitive load. The support experience prioritizes useful context, respectful boundaries, and actions that match explicit permissions.

User Flow

The flow answers questions in the order users naturally ask them.

The primary flow moves from onboarding to a first routine, then into a Today view organized around one clear next step. Users can manage routines, reminders, appointments, and check-ins from predictable sections. Support-circle members join through an invitation or connection code and see only the information and actions that the primary member has shared.

  1. Choose whether BranchDaily is for yourself or someone you support
  2. Set up the first routine
  3. Review one clear next step on Today
  4. Manage routines, reminders, appointments, and check-ins
  5. Invite trusted supporters and set permissions
  6. Receive encouragement or practical help without losing control
Design Decisions

Every major decision supports clarity, agency, or trust

One clear next step

The Today screen leads with a single useful action so users do not have to scan the entire day before getting started.

Permission-based support

Support members receive only the access a primary member chooses, with suggest-only behavior as the safer default.

Gentle status language

Missed or incomplete items avoid blame and use calm, practical language.

Accessible interaction patterns

Large tap targets, readable type, high contrast, and predictable card layouts support users with cognitive or visual needs.

Visual Design System

A calm visual system keeps complex daily information approachable

BranchDaily combines Fraunces headings with Inter body text to balance warmth and clarity. Deep slate anchors the interface, muted teal supports primary actions, sage communicates progress, and warm cream keeps the experience softer than a clinical dashboard. Reusable cards, status styles, spacing, and form patterns create consistency across daily planning and support views.

Fraunces gives major headings warmth and personality, while Inter keeps instructions, schedules, labels, and form controls highly readable. The pairing helps BranchDaily feel supportive and human without sacrificing clarity.

Final Design

A calmer daily experience built around one clear next step

The final product brings routines, reminders, appointments, daily check-ins, and trusted support into one calm experience. A focused Today screen reduces visual overload, while the support-circle model lets each person control what others can see or help manage.

The responsive interface uses clear hierarchy, short labels, large targets, and gentle status cues so the product remains understandable when attention or energy is limited.

Impact / Results

A working product that demonstrates end-to-end product thinking

BranchDaily demonstrates how I translate a personal problem into a functioning digital product. The work spans product strategy, information architecture, interface design, accessibility, permissions, security review, responsive implementation, and ongoing iteration.

  • Designed distinct but connected experiences for members and support circles.
  • Built a reusable visual and interaction system across core workflows.
  • Made privacy and user agency part of the product architecture.
  • Tested and refined complex states including invitations, paused access, and notifications.
What I’d Improve Next

Next: validate the experience with real users in a closed beta

The next phase is a small, carefully managed beta focused on usability, accessibility, and trust. I plan to observe where people hesitate, test the support-circle permission model, continue screen-reader and keyboard testing, refine notification behavior, and use feedback to simplify the product before a broader launch.
